TITLE: FOLIO VIEWS® BASICS FOR LAW FACULTY

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
This session is designed for those faculty members who have had very little or no exposure to using Folio Views software. The key to this session will be learning how to focus on the planning stages of constructing an infobase. Discussion will include:

• Overview of the main features of Folio Views software
• Instruction on using Folio Views as a reading tool
• Explanation of how to take a word processed document and enhance it with Folio Views’ electronic tools
• Instruction on executing jump links and popup links
• Introduction to searching in Folio Views
• Explanation of using level and styles to create a Table of Contents

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
This session is designed for law faculty who have had some prior experience using Folio Views and understand the basic steps involved in planning an infobase. Discussion will include: Brief overview of the structure of Folio Views and how it works

• Advanced searching techniques using groups and fields
• Introduction to basic conversion issues and authoring tips, including instruction on inserting graphics, audio, and video.
• Discussion of security issues (rights management and password protection)
• Advanced use of links, including popup, jump and query links.
• Discussion on program links to LEXIS-NEXIS, the Internet and word processing.

This session is designed for Folio authors who want to distribute self-prepared materials to their students and colleagues, or who wish to submit an electronic authoring project for publication. The session format is presentation and demonstration, not hands-on. Topics of discussion include:

• The first five decisions a Folio author must make
• The electronic author’s plan-- the easy way or hard way?
• Preparing materials for users in a world of Folio Views versions 3 & 4, Macintosh® 3.x , and Windows 95
• Distribution problems and solutions
• Preparing an electronic manuscript for submission to a publisher

TITLE: FOLIO VIEWS INFOBASE CLINIC FOR BEGINNERS

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
Workshop attendees who are new to Folio Views can start working on an infobase and receive individual assistance from infobase experts. These experts will offer suggestions, critiques and instruction as necessary. This is a great opportunity for those people who would like to start building an infobase but need some help getting it off the ground.

This class is designed for those who have extensive experience with Folio Views software. Advanced techniques will be covered, including:

• Explanation on merging multiple infobases and applications using the create feature
• Confirming infobase integrity with the validate feature
• Explanation of making global changes to an infobase using Folio Flat File techniques
• Instruction on how to compress an infobase, along with an explanation of why this is an important procedure

CALI Lessons and Electronic Casebooks are not mutually exclusive propositions. In fact, they can be quite complementary. This session will explain the basics of creating your own CALI-like lessons and how you can integrate them into your courses and electronic casebooks. We will also take a look at web-based materials that can be created via CALI's Webolis.
