Paralegal Programs: Why and How Should We Join CALI?
CALI offers deeply discounted annual dues of $250 to paralegal programs.
To join CALI, just use this form or contact LaVonne Molde, Director of Membership Services: 612-627-4908, lvmolde@cali.org.
We can offer your school a large dues discount because 1) we are a non-profit organization, 2) nearly every US law school is a member of our consortium, and 3) even though undergraduate programs are an important part of the legal education community, we believe they are underrepresented in the CALI community.
This is what your paralegal school gets with a CALI membership:
CALI Lessons:
Your school's students, faculty, and staff receive unlimited access to all CALI lessons for just $250/year.
Some suggested lessons for paralegal schools: Paralegal program instructors should start out by looking into our lessons on Bluebook citation, plagiarism, grammar basics (parts one and two), and other lessons that cover basic concepts. We know of paralegal instructors who teach ALWD Citation solely based on our lesson, written by Darby Dickerson the author of the ALWD Manual.
But aren't CALI Lessons for law schools?: As you browse the lessons, you'll find some that you may consider too advanced for paralegals. Yes, lessons are usually made for law students, but this is another reason paralegal schools' dues are just $250 a year, while law schools currently contribute 20x that for the same material.
We're confident your school, like our growing number of undergraduate member programs, will find more than enough material in 800+ lessons to cover the $250 dues (the cost of a few textbooks). Find out more about CALI Lessons.
CALI Author:
Faculty and staff can use CALI Author, the easy-to-use software we use to create CALI Lessons, to author their own lessons and to edit current ones. Find out more about CALI Author here.
CALI Conference Discount:
Anyone at your organization can attend The Conference for Law School Computing® at a discount and learn about technology and innovation in legal education. Click to see the CALI Conference website.
Medianotes:
Member organizations can get free licenses of MediaNotes video-tagging software. Learn more about MediaNotes.
Classcaster®:
Our blogging and podcasting network allows faculty and staff to create free course blogs and even post class lectures. It is completely free for member schools. More on ClassCaster®.
CALI's Innovations:
New CALI tools like InstaPoll integrate technology into legal education in easy-to-use and practical ways. And beta projects such as eLangdell (the logo above) and the Legal Education Commons represent the type of projects CALI will continue to undertake: forward-thinking endeavors designed to improve the practice of law and legal education in dramatic ways.
As a member of CALI, you not only can access these and other exciting projects as they are unveiled, but you support their implementation and continued growth.
