James Cistone

James Cistone retired in 2004 after working for 27 years at Lockheed and Lockheed Martin. He then joined the Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO) in Washington, DC., under a support contract that they had with Crown Consulting. Cistone had supported the JPDO from its inception while at Lockheed Martin, and has been able to continue that activity in his "retirement". Cistone played a key role in the development of the NextGen Concept of Operations and the NextGen Enterprise Architecture; he managed and completed a Deep Dive Study of Flight Prioritization for the JPDO in 2011 and is currently leading a task to develop the roadmap for the future Trajectory Based Operations (TBO). He has worked in the aviation industry since 1974 in various capacities, in environmental science, and air traffic control system engineering. Cistone completed his Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) in 2009 and his CFII in 2010. Cistone has a Masters Degree from Drexel University, majoring in Physics and Atmospheric Science, and is currently completing his Ph. D. at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In addition to working at JPDO, and completing his Ph. D., Cistone teaches at the local Flight School and takes care of his own ½ acre vineyard. Cistone’s goal in life is simple: “I want to leave a long-lasting legacy in aviation. I believe that finishing my Ph.D. in aviation will enable me to achieve that goal.”
